Official urges workers to deliver project on time

03 Sep 2013

Labourers who have been engaged to maintain the Tshwaragano cluster fencing project in Etsha 6 have been encouraged to work hard to deliver the project on time.

This was said by Ngamiland District crop production officer, Ms Agatha Molefe at the launch of the project recently. Ms Molefe encouraged the workers to ensure that the project is delivered on the set deadline of October this year.

Government introduced the ISPAAD program in 2008 to address challenges faced by arable farmers, especially low productivity. She explained that farmers in Etsha 6 grouped themselves to form the Tshwaragano cluster fencing project.

She further revealed that the Tshwaragano cluster covers an area of 459 hectares. 57 casual laborers have been engaged to maintain the fence through the Ipelegeng program with the assistance of two fence erectors.

Ms Molefe also appealed to residents of Etsha 6 to guard against theft of equipment used to fence the field including the fence, gum poles, spades and others so as not to disrupt the project.

For their part, farmers applauded government for introducing programmes that are aimed at uplifting the lives of Batswana. Farmer’s Committee Chairperson Mr. Nona Sekambo said the cluster was revived in 2011 and the land board approved and authorized the erection of the perimeter fence in 2012.

Several farmers in the area also urged those who were employed in the project to refrain from drinking alcohol, coming late and disappearing from work, saying such actions will stall the project.

The agriculture officers were also asked to monitor the project to ensure that it is completed on time. For his part, Kgosi Boitshepo Forosi of Etsha 6 advised workers to work hand in hand with public officers during erection of the fence.

“I must also encourage farmers to prepare for this year’s ploughing season and not only rely on Ipelegeng,” he said. ENDS
