Member of Parliament for Bobonong Mr Taolo Lucas has informed his electorate that construction of a new district hospital in the village has been deferred to 2022/2023 financial year.

Responding to queries from village development committee report on the progress of the ‘promised Bobonong district hospital’ at a kgotla meeting on January 24, Mr Lucas told constituents that he had asked questions in Parliament pertaining to construction of various health facilities in his constituency.

He informed residents that together with the envisaged Bobonong hospital was Borotsi clinic which was also deferred to 2023/2024 financial year.

The new Bobonong district hospital was to be built in 2014/15 financial year and was deferred due to lack of funds.

Mr Lucas also informed them that there were no plans to construct initially promised Tsetsebjwe hospital soon.

Though he found it not to be sufficient, Mr Lucas however, promised to argue for the construction of the two facilities to be expedited.

Earlier, in his presentation of the VDC repor, deputy chairperson Mr David Meshack said that the current 33-bed hospital in Bobonong could not cater for the whole district.

Mr Meshack argued that, the hospital built in 1976, catered for the then population of 17 900 people against the current population of 56 200.

He further detailed that the current hospital was meant to house 10 medical doctors, but currently had only six.

He also revealed that of the 88 nurses expected to render the facility a fully functional hospital there were 66 available.

“The hospital is basically not serving the district,” said Mr Meshack who further revealed that the current hospital had only 11 beds in maternity wing.
