New Kanye hospital on cards - Letsholo
26 Jan 2020
Kanye North MP, Mr Thapelo Letsholo, says negotiations for construction of Kanye hospital are ongoing.
When responding to concerns from Lekgolobotlo residents during a kgotla meeting recently, Mr Letsholo said notable progress had been made and there was a possibility for construction in the near future.
Residents complained of the current state of health post, which they said needed renovations.
They, therefore, requested a 24-hour health post which could cater for midwifery.
The residents also noted that Kanye and surrounding villages had grown remarkably in term of population, adding that it was time for government to consider building a referral hospital, which could also serve them.
The legislator said he held consultations with the Minister of Health and Wellness, who had assured him that the construction of Kanye hospital had been listed in the National Development Plan 11 mid-term review.
He said they were at the stage where the proposal had to be presented before Parliament for endorsement.
Mr Letsholo admitted the need to speed up the processes for construction of the hospital saying the Seventh-Day Adventist hospital which had been working in partnership with the government to serve the people of Kanye and surrounding villages, had plans to convert to a private hospital.
He, however, acknowledged that SDA should be acknowledged for the role it played in provision of medical attention to the people of Kanye.
He noted that the move to convert SDA into a private hospital was a welcomed development that would contribute towards improved delivery of quality healthcare.
Mr Letsholo was pleased that some of the motions, which he presented during the last sitting of Parliament, among them, a motion which compeled government and parastatals to reserve tenders capped at P10 million or under to citizens were passed.
On another issue, Mr Letsholo said he was not pleased with the poor performance of pupils.
He noted the need for all to ensure that they played part in contributing to improved results.
For his part, Kgosi Aupa Mokabedi said they had experienced poor workmanship of projects due to lack of supervision, adding that accountability of contractors should be monitored. ends
