Government dedicated to dev. agenda

26 Jan 2020

Member of Parliament for Kgatleng East, Mr Mabuse Pule, says government is doing its best to provide necessary developments in all constituencies.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Mmathubudukwane recently, Mr Pule said his team would assess and find solutions to what went wrong with some of the service delivery channels.

He further urged government employees to take better care of government property, adding that government did the best it could to provide resources such as vehicles and office equipment, but due to reckless handling, they ended up being damaged leading to shortage.

Mr Pule encouraged the youth to apply for poverty eradication programmes rather than staying at home, noting that out of the 61 poverty eradication programmes in Mmathubudukwane, only four were not operational.

“Constituency funding has been allocated for street lights and maintenance in Mmathubudukwane and the rest of the Kgatleng East constituency,” he said.

Mr Pule, who is also the deputy speaker of the National Assembly, called on the assistant district commissioner to look at some of the pending development projects and keep an eye on some of the construction companies tendering for the projects to avoid wastage of government funds.

“We must find out how these companies are hired and who owns them because they fail to complete their contracts. A proper assessment must be done before tenders are given so that we can get good results,” Mr Pule stressed.

For her part, Kgatleng assistant district commissioner, Ms Tshephiso Ditsile, re-assured residents that her office would look into the issue of government officers’ housing.

She said it was true that there were some abandoned plots and old government houses that could be recovered, renovated and used by the community.

A member of the village development committee (VDC), Mr Isaac Seabatho, said they were concerned about the delivery of some of the construction projects because they were unsatisfactory.

He said construction of culverts for storm water drainage was done poorly.

Mr Seabatho also pleaded for a second police vehicle since there was only one and whenever they had emergencies, police officers either reported late or did not make it altogether due to shortage of transport.

Another resident, Ms Ruth Kgafela said some VDC houses were unoccupied, but government workers still struggled with accommodation due to allocation of houses according to departments.

“For example, if a house has been allocated to the department of wildlife, but there are few or no officers from wildlife, that house remains unoccupied instead of it being allocated to any government employee in need,” she said. ends
