Sepako wants new company for power installation

23 Jan 2020

Kgosi Joseph Ramaditse of Sepako has called for the company engaged to install power in the village to be replaced with one which will finish the work.

Giving a briefing during a village committees meeting with Member of Parliament, Mr Polson Majaga recently, Kgosi Ramaditse noted that the project could have been completed last year. He said the company failed as it had only done nine of the 35-kilometres power line, and that it was currently not on site.

He said the delays affected not developments, but the well-being of people who wanted to uplift their lives through electricity.

In addition, he decried the shortage of public officers’ accommodation. He noted that there were seven houses built through the Economic Stimulus Programme that had been lying idle for the past four years.

He also requested that their tribal land be increased because their population had grown, and that land had not been allocated for years since they were surrounded by state land. He noted that last year they had wild animals invading their village in search of water and appealed to the government to consider drilling more boreholes at CT5 area to water animals.

On other issues, Kgosi Ramaditse complained about constituency projects in the village, saying only two had been completed since the initiative started.

He said some had not even started although the new financial year was around the corner. He called for the restructuring of the way projects were done.

Sharing similar sentiments was the village extension team chairperson, Mr Johnson Chuma, who said the primary school had eight houses for 13 teachers, which meant five of them were sharing.

He added that it was a challenge because not everyone could share as teachers had families.

Furthermore, Mr Chuma said developments and technological advances in Sepako were lagging behind because there was no electricity.

He further lamented the shortage of teachers at the local school, noting that last year they introduced a reception class, but that there were no qualified teachers.

He said they used two teachers’ aids whose contracts had since expired, adding however that they had made a request for the contracts to be renewed while waiting for permanent staff.

Meanwhile, Mr Majaga informed the committees that he would take up the issue of delayed power installation with his counterparts, adding that their situation was similar to that of Tsokatshaa where the project could have been completed by September or early December last year.

On the issue of constituency funds, he said he was going to change the way the money was used. He added that the committees were going to be part of the restructuring process. ENDS
