MP commends Mabesekwa for PSLE results

23 Jan 2020

Tonota MP, Mr Pono Moatlhodi has promised to give Mabesekwa Primary School two beasts if the school beats its last year’s Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) performance.

The school, situated some 67 kilometres West of Tonota at Mabesekwa, attained 80 per cent pass rate in PSLE while Madisakwana Primary School in Tonota took position one with an 89 per cent pass rate.

“I promise two beasts if the school can attain an above 95 per cent pass rate this year,” stated Tonota Member of Parliament, Mr Pono Moatlhodi.

He said it was encouraging to see a remote area school performing better that schools in urban areas.

However, he criticized parents for not playing their part in the education of their children by not attending Parent’s Teachers Association (PTA) meetings or even collecting their children’s school reports.

Mr Moatlhodi informed the residents that he would lead a delegation to find out why Mabesekwa Primary School pupils who had been admitted at Dukwi Community Junior Secondary performed badly.

This was after the residents and the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Gibson Basiame wondered why their children performed badly after being admitted at the school.

They threatened to no longer allow their children to attend school at Dukwi and suggested that they be admitted to other secondary schools within the Tonota region since Dukwi was also far.

Mr Moatlhodi further stated that he was aware of the long wait for residential plot allocation in the constituency.

He noted that the waiting list stood at over 11 500 for the whole constituency and 2 200  for Mabesekwa.

He however, cautioned residents on the dangers of selling plots saying land was an asset that needed to be conserved.

The MP also briefed the residents on the proposed tarred road from Tonota passing through Semotswane, Mandunyane, Shashemooke, Borolong and Chadibe up to Mathangwane, which would be constructed at  a cost of P723 million. He said residents affected by the construction of the road had already been compensated with Semotswane having 17 of such residents, 59 at Mandunyane and 71 at Shashemooke.

Kgosi Tshwaro Masisi of Mabesekwa thanked government to have considered connecting Mabesekwa village to the electricity grid.

He complained about the poor state of the Tonota/Mabesekwa gravel road.

Meanwhile, Tonota Police Station Commander, Superintendent Oteng Ngada told residents that a satellite police post would be built in their settlement in the next financial year.

Superintendent Ngada explained that the project would be a package inclusive of a police vehicle. ENDS
