BActing chief education officer for Selebi Phikwe sub-region, Mr Kenneth Mogapi, has extended his gratitude towards Ms Christina Michael of Book World Francistown Organisation for donating 12 digital boards to schools in Selebi Phikwe.

Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, Mr Mogapi said he was honored to receive the donation on behalf of eight primary schools and four junior schools.

“This region is renowned for good results. We witnessed schools doing well particularly Botshabelo Primary School, which recently obtained a 100 per cent pass rate, hence this donation will go a long way to enhance teaching and learning in the region,” said Mr Mogapi.

He explained that six of Selebi Phikwe Junior Secondary Schools performed well, three falling within the top 10 nationally.

Mr Mogapi further said it was important to learn new technologies beneficial to keep up with the cutting edge technology of this era.

He said he was looking forward to working with Book World Francistown in the years to come.

Ms Michael said the donation had come to the right place, adding that she was optimistic that the boards would be fully utilised.

She said she was glad to be part of this initiative and said she believed in the value of education. She added that pupils would automatically do well with this development, citing her own experience as a learner in India where chalk boards were used and said this incapacitated the process of learning.

For her part, Ms Marry Towardros of Skill Builders Botswana credited Pastor Robert Grindley of Branch Ministries Trust for his role in identifying the recipients for this donation.

She said she was proud of last year’s examination results for both primary and secondary schools in Selebi Phikwe and said this was because of passion and working together.

She said with her experience and passion, she planned to arrange workshops to dialogue on learning disabilities and remedial measures.

“We need to fill this academic gap,” she said.

Selebi Phikwe Sub-region principal education officer, Mr Cosmos Chabata said he was worried of the fact that schools in Selebi Phikwe produced a large number of As , few Bs and a large number of Cs.

Therefore, the digital boards would help in the endeavour to improve that.

He appreciated the donation by Book World Francistown, saying it was appropriate since those schools did extremely well and this would certainly make the sub-region to continue to shine. ENDS
