Water supply in Kgatleng stable

Kgatleng District Council (KDC) chairperson says the water supply situation in the district is generally stable with enough pressure to supply both low and high lying areas.
Giving a keynote address at a council session, Mr Daniel Molokwe, who is also the councillor for Rasesa, said however, villages of Bokaa and Phala camp are still experiencing a deficit, especially in the high lying areas and a short term mitigation of water bowsing would continue.
Mr Molokwe said the north south carrier is the sole water source for the greater Mochudi area, which covers a total of nine villages out of a total 22 villages in the district management area.
He said the six villages of Mabalane, Mmathubudukwane, Sikwane, Malolwane, Ramonaka and Dikwididi were supplied with surface water from Molatedi dam and also had standby old boreholes.
He noted that the remaining seven villages of Malotwana, Artesia, Leshibitse, Dikgonnye, Ramotlabaki, Kgomodiatshaba and Khurutshe were supplied by boreholes.
Mr Molokwe further informed councillors that there were three water treatment plants in the management centre; two reverse osmosis plants (salinity) at Dikgonnye and Ramotlabaki, as well as a third plant being Mabalane treatment plant (conventional package plant).
“The treatment capacities are 10m3/hr for both Dikgonnye and Ramotlabaki, and the maximum output for Mabalane is 1200m3/day,” he said.
On water projects, he said the refurbishment and optimisation of Mabalane water treatment plant and the drilling, construction, development and test pumping of one replacement borehole in Ramotlabaki were complete.
“I am happy to inform you that both projects have been handed over to Water Utilities Corporation,” he said, adding that the upgrading of Bokaa water pipeline and storage tank is at 95 per cent with the construction of pump station and tanks currently ongoing. Ends
