Moshupa/Manyana MP, Mr Karabo Gare, has thanked government for construction of a hospital in Moshupa.
He praised government during a kgotla meeting in the village recently.
The 70-bed hospital project, which would cost P419 million, began in September last year and would be completed by March 2022.
He indicated that the residents had suffered for years, adding that most of them had to incur transport costs to access health services in other areas.
Mr Gare, also acting Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, said he was optimistic that a company that was engaged would complete the project on time, adding that the hospital was important to residents.
He said the hospital construction would benefit residents of Moshupa and surrounding villages in terms of employment creation.
He said he was hopeful that challenges that would arise as a result of the construction would be settled by the village leadership.
Furthermore, Mr Gare stated that plans were underway to upgrade Pitseng and Manyana clinic.
On other issues, he expressed concern about the rising cases of mortality among children aged five years and below.
He advised parents to use simple and cheap interventions to prevent diarrhoea in order to save children.
“We need to improve how we handle our children by providing adequate sanitation and safe water,” he said.
He also urged them to take their children to the hospital immediately when signs of diarrhoea show.
Mr Gare cautioned residents about the dangers of non-communicable diseases, which were a result of lifestyles.
He shared that, as a way of preventing such diseases people should regularly engage in physical exercises,
Mr Gare further said government was doing all it could to ensure that drugs were available in health facilities.
In his remarks, Kgosi Oscar Mosielele showed appreciation for construction of the hospital.
He however expressed concern that they were experiencing illegal sand mining in the village rivers with suspicions directed to the hospital project.
He noted that, while sand mining had been prohibited for residents, there were some outsiders who were mining their sand.
Kgosi Mosielele pleaded with the legislator for intervention to allow residents to be allowed to mine sand so as to supply to the hospital project so that they could make a living. ENDS
