Mosetse residents plead for maintenance of secondary school

19 Jan 2020

Mosetse residents have decried lack of maintenance at Dukwi Junior Secondary School.

They told their Member of Parliament, Mr Polson Majaga in a kgotla meeting that the school fence was dilapidated and there was free movement of people, a situation which could negatively affect the pupils’ learning process.

Residents further complained about the bad state of the pupils’ hostels, noting that they had no windows or doors hence putting the lives of children at danger.

One parent, Mr Senwelo Segaetsho said the school needed to be fully refurbished, adding that classrooms were not conducive for learning.

Residents, however, appreciated developments undertaken at the primary school such as the construction of a pre-school block by the Village Development Committee.

In his welcoming remarks, Kgosi Opelo Ntshwarelang of Mosetse pointed out that they were disheartened by lack of feedback from government officials on issues concerning the community.

They complained of shortage of water, adding that in 2018, they were promised that by April of the same year, they would get portable water, but nothing ever came their way.

He stated that to avoid drinking saline water, some people had resorted to bowsing for themselves from as far as Mathangwane, since the surrounding villages were facing the same problem.

Residents also complained that they had long been promised a clinic and since their village was at the central point to service centers such as Tutume and Nata, they were hopeful of getting a clinic with a maternity wing to cater for villages such as Kutamogoree, Lepashe and Dukwi.

Kgosi Ntshwarelang said since they did not have a clinic with maternity wing, expectant mothers from the village were being taken to Dukwi before being moved to Tutume.

He thus appealed for change in the way things were being done.

In response, MP Majaga urged parents to caution their children against vandalism, noting that most of the damages caused to schools were done by students not that the school structures were old.

Mr Majaga highlighted that maintenance of school were being undertaken through the backlog eradication exercise under the Economic Stimulus Programme and their school together with Nxakato junior school at Sowa were scheduled to be done.

He however pointed out that some developments projects were still on hold pending the 2020/2021 national budget allocations.

Regarding water crisis, he said he would arrange with the minister to come and update them. Ends
