Moswaane calls for sustainable projects

16 Jan 2020

Residents of Phase 6 in the Francistown West constituency have been urged to come up with sustainable projects to fight unemployment amongst the youth.

Addressing the residents during a Kgotla meeting recently Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatious Moswaane informed residents that a youth recreational facility was in the offing and would be built to the tune of  P2 million.

He said the facility would help curb problems such as drug and alcohol abuse amongst the youth.

Furthermore, Mr Moswaane informed residents that their plea for a shopping complex had been answered as its budget had been approved. This, he noted would alleviate the challenge of not having any shops in the ward, which forced residents to commute to other areas to buy necessities.

He said around last April, about P10 million was released for the project, but the identified plot was found to be unsuitable as it had drainage pipes underground and the project had to be shelved.

Furthermore, Mr Moswaane said Phase 6 ward had shortage of space for a traders’ market and day care centre. He also lamented the lack of office space for youth projects as well as the collapse of some.

The MP urged residents to utilise the constituency funds wisely, to cater for all the needs.

He urged ward development committee members to steer clear of politics and focus on developing the community.

MP Moswaane also noted the need to install tower lights in the ward to augment street lights, to assist in the fight against crime.

On other issues, he informed residents that the construction of a road from Gerald Estates to Aerodrome had been approved and was awaiting identification of a contractor.

For his part, acting ward development committee chairperson, Mr Batshegi Kgari requested for the four-way road in their ward to be paved to reduce costs of maintenance.

He also complained about absence of a doctor at their clinic, as well as shortage of other staff, which burdened available ones.

Mr Kgari also called for the review of the policy on the awarding of tenders to give the ward development committee a say.

Residents requested for speed humps along the road that passes near the school to curb accidents and also expressed concern about having to travel long distances for services.

Further, they asked for a senior police officer to be posted to their area. ends
