Business owners in Letlhakeng have been urged to improve security of their outlets in an effort to hinder robbery and theft.

Speaking in an interview with BOPA on Monday, Letlhakeng Station Commander Supt Mogomotsi Kesupile said security of goods and services remained at the core of every business hence the need to make sure of the installation of security equipment in business premises.

He said they were worried about the recent robberies that happened in some business premises where it was found that some cameras were not working while others had poor picture quality making it difficult to identify the culprits.

Supt Kesupile said in the period between December 20 and January 05, four cases of robberies were  reported in Letlhakeng.

The robberies took place at the two fuel stations and two other shops.

He said Shell fuel station was robbed of P27 000 while Roadway Total was robbed of P10 000 plus staff cellphones.

He said a security officer in one of the outlet was rescued by the police on patrol after they found him tied down by robbers.

Supt Kesupile added that security in premises remained a concern and urged business owners to attend to the security of their businesses.

In a separate incident, he said the police were in investigating a grievous bodily harm case in which a 37-year-old man of Molepolole was brutally beaten and left with broken legs In Ngware over the holidays.

The suspect is a 29 year old male of Ngware village and the police investigations are still on-going while the 37 year old man has been admitted at Princess Marina Hospital.

Supt Kesupile was also thankful for no fatal road accidents, no murders and no house break-in reported in their policing area during the holidays.

He commended residents in surrounding villages for peaceful holidays and encouraged them to continue with the good behavior.

Nevertheless, he said he was concerned about people who go around carrying knives fashioning it as their cultural norm, warning that the law prohibited anyone to carry any offensive weapon.

He added that the police were worried by rape and defilement cases in the area as some the cases involved minors while others were gender based violence related.ENDS
