Honour the national anthem-kgosi
02 Sep 2013
Batswana have been encouraged to sing the national anthem with pride and give it the decency it deserved.
Speaking at the Vision 2016 awareness launch month in Tshane on August 31, Kgosi Bojosi Motshoge of Tshane said the national anthem evoked and eulogised the history and tradition of Botswana hence the nation should pride its self with its composition and honour it whenever it was sang.
Kgosi Motshoge indicated that the national anthem also promoted unity and patriotism in the country which were some of the key pillars that strengthened democracy. He said the national anthem was arguably one of the most important aspects of Botswana’s independent status and the umbrella under which the country should rally and be proud.
Again, he said continuous singing of the national anthem was one of the potent factors in developing and enriching patriotism. Kgosi Motshoge further pleaded with the youth to familiarise themselves with the lyrics of the anthem. He said it had become common for young people not to sing the national anthem; something he described as an embarrassment to the nation.
Furthermore, he urged Batswana to acknowledge the input of yesteryear leaders arguing that they had laid a solid foundation towards building a peaceful nation that the country was at the moment.
“Botswana is blessed to have had great leaders who put personal interests aside and focused on prosperity for the entire nation,” he said. He said through the visionary leadership of all the former leaders, the country had managed to attain significant respect globally and remain to be living example of true democracy, and excellent governance admired by many.
