Ramaphatle snail pace development worries residents

Kgosi Moalefe Dibe of Ramaphatlhe says despite the village growing at a faster rate, developments have lagged behind.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting at the village on January 10, Kweneng District Council Chairperson Mr Motlhophi Leo pointed out that there were few visible developments such as Ramaphatle Primary School that he said was doing very well academically.
He said he was concerned about water shortage and poor storm water drainage which caused flooding in homes and damaged roads.
VDC Representative Ms Boitumelo David, voiced concerns about lack of developments in their village, noting that water shortage was mostly caused by leaking water pipes which were never maintained on time.
Ms David requested the Kweneng District Council to consider paving the road from the main road to the school because teachers and other government officials struggled to reach to the school as the road was in poor condition.
She also requested that speed humps be built on the A3 road as road accidents were rampant on the road.
She also said space had been identified for a grave yard and owners were willing to give it up provided they were compensated.
On another issue Ms David requested for a clinic in the village as they had to travel to Thamaga and Mmankgodi to seek medical assistance.
Ms David decried shortage of law enforcement officer who could work with clusters.
When given the chance to comment, residents complained about not being hired on Ipelegeng projects and tenders of providing breakfast at Ramaphatle Primary School as they were mostly awarded to people from nearby villages such as Kumakwane and Mmankgodi.
“Job opportunities and essential developments are mostly provided to residents of Thamaga while people of Ramaphatle are left behind” complained one resident Mr Charles Pilediwa.
In his response, Mr Leo assured the residents that he would work with village councillors and government officials as well as stakeholders to bring developments to the village in order to improve the standard of living.
He said however developments were mostly delayed by lack of funds.
Mr Leo also encouraged residents of Ramaphatle to reduce urban migration pointing out that developing an area depended on the number of people currently occupying the place. ENDS
