Malaka Lecheng land allocation woes over soon

08 Jan 2020

Palapye Sub-land Board is reportedly working around the clock to avail land for residential plots at Malaka and Lecheng villages.

Responding to community concerns during a kgotla meeting addressed by the area MP, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele on January 6, land board deputy chairperson, Ms Baipoledi Moganetsi-Kwadiba said some ploughing fields had been identified at Malaka, which could be converted into reisdential plots.

Ms Moganetsi-Kwadiba said the land board took long to allocate land at Malaka and Lecheng villages due to unavailability of land.

Ms Moganetsi-Kwadiba explained that the process of acquiring land was very long as owners had to be consulted and once consensus was reached, compensation had to be effected prior to allocation.

At Lecheng, she said, the process was halted due to erroneous base maps.

She explained that the land board was working around the clock to correct the maps following which allocation would resume.

Residents had complained that plots were last allocated in 2008 resulting in family disputes and elderly children still residing in their parents’ homes.

Mr Modukanele, who is also the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, requested the land board to fast track land allocation in the two villages, stressing that lack of land had brought  development to a standstill.

He requested members of different committees in the two villages to work together.

Mr Modukanele thanked residents for voting for him in the 2019 general elections promising to improve their livelihoods as per the ruling party’s manifesto. Ends
