Lelatisitswe calls for efficiency in funds usage

Heads of departments in Boteti Sub-district have been implored to spend funds allocated to them in an efficient manner.

Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe Mr Lelatisitswe  told a meeting of departmental heads in Letlhakane Monday to ensure efficient use of 2019/2020 financial year funds.

By doing so, they would be creating employment opportunities and developing the area, he said.

The assistant minister cautioned his audience against procuring goods and services at exorbitant prices.

He encouraged the officers to up their game in delivering projects  in accordance with President Dr Mokgeetsi Masisi’s roadmap.

“Peoples’ hopes are high and as officers you should not disappoint by failing to deliver what President Masisi has been promising Batswana,” he said.

The sub district’s economic planner, Ms Ompone Motlogelwa, said most of the 2019/2020 financial year projects had not yet started but were at procurement and implementation stages.

Ms Motlogelwa said the sub-district was still awaiting an improved light fitting system from BITRI for streetlights installation.

She stated that the Ipelegeng Programme quota in Boteti Sub-district stood at 2870.

Assistant Minister Lelatisitswe requested local government to release the P350 000 eamarked for Makgaba water reticulation  to Water Utilities Corporation (WUC).

Meanwhile Mr Unabatsho Matenge of the Department of Roads stated that the upgrading of Thalamabele-Mosu Road was at 44 per cent.

Mr Matenge stated that resealing of Mokubilo-Orapa East gate road had not yet started while dry grading of Letlhakane-Khwee Road was approved in December 2019.

WUC general manager Mr Monametsi Ramosu stated that Mmatshumo project was at design stage while progress on the Mosu water treatment plant project was slow because it was funded by World Bank.

Mr Lelatisitswe toured projects in Letlhakane including Mokane Primary School’s classroom blocks and staff  housing project.

Though the project was progressing well, it emerged the classroom component did not include furniture.

Mr Lelatisitswe also toured the Ditsweletse Junior Secondary classroom blocks construction project which stood at 91 per cent. It was reported that the project was two per cent ahead of schedule. Ends
