Dam levels rise across country

A Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) report indicates an increase in most dam levels across the country.
The report shows that Nnywane Dam has increased from 68.4 to 100.6 per cent, while Bokaa Dam has increased from 49.7 to 100 per cent and they both have 13 months of water supply, without further inflows.
Meanwhile, Letsibogo, which has a carrying capacity of 100 cubic millimetres, has increased from 74.4 to 82.0 per cent, while Ntimbale Dam, which supplies North East and Tutume Sub- district also increased from 78.2 to 83.9 per cent.
It is also indicated that during the same period last year, Lotsane Dam had 49.1 per cent and it increased to 55. 2 per cent.
However, the largest dam, Dikgatlhong, which supplies the greater Gaborone, Mahalapye and Palapye has dropped from 84.6 to 72.7 per cent, while Gaborone Dam remains constant at 62.8 per cent and still has 22 months of water supply without further inflows.
South Africa’s Molatedi Dam, which also supplies the greater Gaborone, has declined from 22.5 to 17.4 per cent, whereas Thune, which supplies the Babirwa cluster, dropped from 56.5 to 46.8 per cent.
The report further indicates that Shashe Dam dropped by one per cent this year from 77.2 per cent last year. ENDS
