Molepolole needs Infrastructure development

17 Dec 2019

Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA), Senior Assistant Council Secretary (SACS), Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane, says although the council is aware of the dire need for infrastructural development in Molepolole, plans to have such an undertaking may not be realised due to financial constraints.

Mr Kgabanyane said this in response to Lekgwapheng/Lephaleng councillor, Slumber Mokgosi’s call for immediate action towards consideration of the infrastructural development for Molepolole, during the just- ended MAA sub-council meeting.

Councillor Mokgosi emphasised the need for such, stating that the development had been overtaken by the event, considering the status of Molepolole.

On other issues, Mr Kgabanyane advised Molepolole community and the village leadership to take advantage of constituency funding to prioritise critical projects in the village, citing the drainage system as one relevant project, although it required serious funding.

He was of the view that P20 million for the two constituencies could be used to do some of the related works from the beginning.

Mr Kgabanyane was sharing Councillor Sojwe Lejage’s sentiments to the effect that the poor infrastructure in Molepolole required joint efforts by the village leadership in putting together their constituency funding on projects that would  have a serious impact on the community.

Lentsweletau East’s Councillor Botokanyana Motoroko reiterated his concern over the back-up generator at Lentsweletau Clinic, saying it did not serve its intended purpose as it had never been used ever since installation.

Councillor Motoroko said the generator was a waste of government resources, saying someone needed to account, since the clinic had never benefited from it for the past five years.

He expressed a concern that the situation had adversely affected the delivery of services at the facility, which was expected to deliver a 24-hour service, as candles and  cellular phones were used as sources of light.

The Kweneng District Health Management Team head of preventative, Ms Ntshipi Otukile said that action had since been taken by the ministry’s infrastructure facility manager to have the generator issue resolved.

Meanwhile, Councillor Lejage also proposed for consideration of the alternative package in the Poverty Alleviation programme by replacing Tswana chicken with broilers, saying they were difficult to maintain as their production was too low, thus failing to alleviate poverty.

However, The MAA deputy district commissioner, Mr Innocent Maotwe said broilers were more expensive as they needed special poultry management, but said the proposal would be looked into. ENDS
