16 Dec 2019

The Francistown Department of Building and Engineering Services (DBES) has donated a house to an elderly Shashe-Mooke  woman.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony recently, Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Deputy Director Mr Ishmael Monkutlwatsi appealed to each individual to help those in need.

He commended the staff for their noble gesture that he said was is in line with the country’s vision pillars.

The Francistown DBES Ministerial Technical Manager Mr Fadzani Phegelo said that the project which started in June 2019 was not easy to complete.

He said the project which was the brain child of the women’s wing committee was completed through the help of other DBES employees, other government offices and private sector.

The women’s wing committee chairperson from DBES, Ms Tsholofelo Ramothwa noted that yearly each committee identified and made a difference in the live an elderly person.

She said this year the committee, through the help of Francistown City Council, identified the elder who lived in an uninhabitable structure with her family.

The chairperson explained that as a committee they decided to seek help from other stakeholders who contributed the required materials.

For her part, the beneficiary Ms Poloko Solani noted that before she was approached by DBES, building a house had been a priority on her wish list and she had started buying some building materials.

However, she suffered a set back and lost a child, something which forced her to use the money for the funeral while some of the materials she had bought were stolen.

“Due to the incident, I could not build the house anymore, however, I guess it all happened for a reason and God knew good Samaritans were on the way to help me,” she said.

Ms Solani extended her gratitude towards all those who took part in putting a roof over her head.

The wellness committee chairperson, Mr Micca Sefonea said that the project made him realise that in life one ought to have a dream.

“The project started as a dream. It was nothing but an idea and we had nothing to begin the project with but we made it happen. The dream came true,” he said, adding that it all came true because there was team work amongst DBES employees. Ends
