Tawana Land Board has completed the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) which has delayed land allocations for the Tawana Land Board and its sub land boards, says land board chairperson, Mr Emmanuel Dube.
Speaking at the Tawana Land Board chairman's Ball on December 14, Mr Dube said that the land board had managed to complete assessment for 20 villages.
He said the completion of assessment was a great milestone for their land board since it would assist expedite plot allocations next year.
He noted that plot layout designs had been approved for some villages such as Seronga and Gumare in the Okavango Sub-district.
As for the Maun and its surroundings, he said 1 000 plots had been demarcated at Matlapana while 3 000 plots were being surveyed at Sexaxa.
"The Land Board is hopeful to allocate plots in 2020 after many years of no allocations," he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Dube said the land board was worried by increase of illegal land occupation and fraudulent land certificates.
He said that many squatters were recorded in places such as Shashe ward in Maun and Boro settlement in the outskirts of Maun.
On fraudulent certificates, he advised that people should verify the authenticity of the plots with the land boards before parting with their monies.
Mr Dube appreciated the land board's stakeholders, who he said played a major role in the achievements made in 2019, citing the North West District Council for its assistance in the completion of assessments. Ends
