Embassy opens doors for pupils

12 Dec 2019

Chinese Deputy Ambassador to Botswana, Mr Wang Bangfu says the relationship the embassy has with Kubung Primary School in Maun is vital and continues to bear fruit.

Speaking during an open day held for some of the pupils from Kubung who were on tour in Gaborone, the deputy ambassador said their continued support of the school was recognition that children were seeds for the future.

Mr Bangfu said their relationship with the school was a testament of their goodwill and investment in the future, including the strengthening of ties with the country, which he said, should grow further.

Mr Bangfu said the open day was also meant for pupils to interact with artefacts from Chinese culture. Mr Bangfu added that the Chinese culture and the Tswana culture had commonalities which the pupils could learn a lot from.

He also said cultural exchange drives were important in strengthening relationships between the two countries while exposing the children to different experiences that came with the world becoming a global village.

Receiving stationary awarded on the day, the school’s head of department, Ms Eraletse Motsumi described the gift as a lasting token of their friendship with the embassy. Ms Motsumi added that the donation would go a long way in helping the school forge forward in educating the pupils.

Ms Motsumi further expressed gratitude towards the Chinese Embassy for building the school, and the continued support they had received from the embassy, adding that their facilitation of a conducive environment for pupils was essential to the mandate of child education. The pupils had the opportunity to interact with some of the symbols and artefacts contained in the Chinese culture while they toured the embassy. ENDS
