DKamp's heifer is grand champion of the yard

Ghanzi farmer, Mr Hendrick D’Kamp's Simmental heifer is this year’s national agricultural show's grand champion of the yard.

Mr D’Kamp walked away with P13 452 40 prize money and a trophy sponsored by Debswana’s as well as a double axel cattle trailer donated by the National Development Bank (NDB) for his 28-month-old Simmental heifer. The reserve grand champion went to Wayside Brahman Stud getting a prize money of P7 952 40 and a trophy for white Brahman senior bull.

Darryl Van der Westhuizen scooped the champion senior doe 6-8 teeth and junior doe 2-4 teeth with prize money of P5 452 40 each and also won the grand champion of the yard in the goat category with prize money of P6 952 40.

Another young farmer, Mr Hennel Kaisara scooped the grand champion of the yard in the sheep category pocketing P6 952 40 after winning the reserve grand champion of the yard with prize money of P4 952 40 and P5 452 40 in the champion senior ram and champion junior eve each.

The prize money of P5 452 40 for the 8-9 months gilt went to Mr Magare Manoni while Clement Boitshwarelo scooped the champion cock and pocketed P4 452 40 and Mr Kago Nthaga got P4 452 40 for champion rabbit and champion hen respectively.

Giving a vote of thanks, Mr Thapelo Setlalekgosi also a young farmer and a member of the national agricultural show, called on aspiring young farmers to take it head on and help in diversifying the economy of the country.

He said it was pleasing to find out that most the exhibitors were youth and said the trend should improve instead of declining, as they are the backbone of the country. He thanked all companies that contributed towards prizes and urged them to continue their support to develop the agricultural sector. ENDS
