Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) will host a stakeholder forum to launch a report on Small and Medium Enterprises Competitiveness Survey (SMECS) today.

A press release from LEA says the stakeholder forum will also disseminate research results.

The release states that the launch follows a partnership between LEA and ITC through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to conduct the survey where they interviewed over 600 operational companies.

It also says following successful completion of the survey, the output is expected to significantly contribute towards diversification of the economy and significantly impact the SME sector in Botswana.

 The main objective of the survey was to assess competitiveness of small and medium enterprises in Botswana as well as establish the SMME sector needs and challenges that inhibit their competitiveness and sustainability.

Furthermore, the release says survey results will also create a knowledge base to guide policy direction, decision making and targeted initiatives to accelerate the SMME sector. ENDS
