Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund is committed to getting their clients’ lives back to normal by working together with caretakers who are central in rehabilitation of victims.
Speaking at the caretaker training and counselling workshop held in Gaborone recently, MVA Fund senior manager for claims assessment and investigations, Mr Lesesa Mtonga said it was on such backdrop that they developed a case management system with the goal to enhance quality of life by promoting road safety, compensating, rehabilitating and supporting those affected by road crashes.
Mr Mtonga explained that the primary focus of case management was for victims to return to functionality because MVA Fund was unable to provide and pay clients’ expenses for their whole life.
“Provision of assistive devices like wheelchairs is offered to car crash and accident victims so as to make their lives comfortable and easier in their daily basis, which also helps the caretakers to do their job easily,” he said.
He added that the case management also made it easier for affected people to be referred for rehabilitation outside the country and provide integrated service planning, delivery in collaboration with claimants’ families, employers, schools and treating health professionals.
Furthermore, he indicated that the case management had achieved a number of things, including early intervention of medical rescue to avoid complications during accidents as victims would be rushed to the nearest health facility by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) teams.
He said the system reintegrated people with society hence their efforts to try to assist car crash victims to get best medical covers and treatments so that they could get back to their way of life.
He said the workshop aimed to equip caretakers with skills and knowledge on management injuries, promote psychological well-being of both the claimants and caregivers. ENDS
