Daily Needs opens donates

Daily Needs Hyper opened Wednesday in Bobonong and donated food hampers to 25 orphans around the village as identified by social and community development office.
Established in 2006, Daily Needs Hyper employs 33 people from Bobonong and a total of 250 countrywide in their nine outlets.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kgosi Ezekiel Joel of Bobonong deemed the hyper store a welcome development that would breed competition that would result in his people enjoying freedom of choice and selection against other available stores as Sefalana and Choppies.
Though opening of Daily Needs Hyper in Bobonong could result in Selebi Phikwe losing on some of the customers who frequented the town to purchase various goods that would now be provided at the new store, Kgosi Joel found that the hyper store would benefit his people by way of cutting on travel costs.
Among other benefits, Kgosi Joel found that his people would be able to hatch a symbiotic relationship with the shop management, where they would sell their agricultural produce to the store. He found that the store would also cause money to circulate in the area.
Although he said he was not in a position to dictate to the store management on how much they should pay their workers, the community leader appealed to the management to pay their employees salaries that matched the standard and cost of living.
Where a dispute would arise between the employer and employees, Kgosi Joel advised both to follow dispute resolutions and laid down procedures to avoid undesirable consequences.
For his part, Daily Needs Bobonong managing director, Mr Abdul Mukaram said the opening of the shop in the village ‘clearly demonstrates our continuing commitment as a partner in the economic development of Botswana’.
“While it is appreciated that the cost of providing retail facilities and infrastructure in a vast, but sparsely populated country such as ours can be significant, it is important that the level of pricing should be seen to be commensurate with the quality of service,” said Mr Mukaram. Mr Mukaram conceded that it was however, a challenge striking a satisfactory balance between profitability and provision of good customer service.
Thus, he called upon the people of Bobonong and greater Bobirwa region to utilise their services to earn a good rate of return and thereby realise a significant value for money.
When receiving the donation from the store management, senior assistant council secretary at Bobirwa Subordinate District, Ms Gomolemo Moepeng commended Daily Needs Hyper management as Good Samaritans.
She said since the sub-council was mandated with caring for the orphans and other needy and vulnerable groups, they wholly accepted the benevolence act from Daily Needs Hyper store to have the orphans benefit from the store’s corporate social investment. ends
