Motsamai applauds liberalisation of beef industry

Ghanzi South legislator, Mr Motsamai Motsamai has applauded government decision to open up the beef industry to allow more players; a move he says will revive the beef sector.
In his debate of the State-of-the-Nation address on Wednesday, Mr Motsamai urged government to speed up the liberalisation process given its potential to create a healthy industry with economic benefits.
He argued that since the Ghanzi region was renowned for beef production, the establishment of an abattoir in the region would be an advantage to both the farmer and the country’s beef industry.
Mr Motsamai also pleaded with the government to provide a conducive environment for economic growth that required adequate infrastructure as well as better connectivity to farms.
“Infrastructure plays a key role in facilitating trade, as the road density network, air transport, railways and logistics will result in increased trade flows that will result in positive economic growth,” he said.
The Ghanzi South MP, however, said the government was not doing much to cater to his constituents’ health needs, saying there was a need for a bigger hospital. “It is my constituents’ plea to have a hospital, preferably in Charleshill as the village has already been declared a sub-district headquarters and strategically located,” he said.
He said patients were currently referred to Ghanzi Primary Hospital that did not have the capacity to serve both the Ghanzi North and South constituency.
Mr Motsamai also complained of the delay in the completion of the 110 kilometres Ncojane/Charleshill road project.
He said the project had been marred by legal battles which halted its construction at different stages. He explained that the contractor had since abandoned the project and vacated the construction site with 16 kilometres of the road yet to be constructed.
He, therefore, expressed doubt as to whether the project would meet the March 2020 expected completion date thereby resulting in cost over-runs. ENDS
