Security guards engaged during election paid
27 Nov 2019
The security company that was engaged for nine of the 12 polling stations in the Nata-Gweta Constituency namely Malelejwe, Tshwaane, Rulele, Didibakwe, Xharoxhacoo, Xhamkhwae, Roman Catholic Church, Day Care and Community Hall was paid on the November 11.
This was said by the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Kabo Morwaeng who told Parliament that the cheques for the three-night watchmen that were engaged for each of the remaining three polling stations were ready for collection on the November 15.
The three remaining polling stations are Senagore, Juna and Thabatshukudu. The minister, however, said, two of them collected their cheques on November 18, while the other one only collected on the November 22.
“The delay in paying the night watchmen was mostly due to interruptions on the Government Accounting and Budgeting System (GABS) and frequent power cuts in the area at the time,” he said.
He was answering a question from Nata-Gweta Member of Parliament Mr Polson Majaga who wanted to know if the minister was aware that Security guards who were on duty during the general elections in the Nata-Gweta Constituency had not been paid to date and why it took long for them to get paid while some security guards in other constituencies had already been paid.
