Barclays hosts retailers market day

Barclays Bank Botswana on Saturday hosted the second annual retailers market day at its premises in the Central Business District (CBD).
In an interview on the sidelines of the daylong event, the bank’s chief risk officer Mr Kabo Molomo said the platform offered local retailers and wholesalers an opportunity to showcase their products to prospective customers.
“It is also in some part a way of appreciating them as part of our growth as Barclays. We showcase our brand and appeal to people to realise our journey as we transition from Barclays to ABSA,” he said.
Mr Molomo said they were helping youth businesses grow and were encouraging them to employ more Batswana. He said they had the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) proposition where they financed upcoming youth in various sector.
“It is a proposition geared toward young entrepreneurs.We want them to grow big. Some of the businesses here we supported as small businesses and today they are multinationals,” he added.
Mr Molomo said they also had the enterprise development supply chain programme where they supported smaller SMEs who supply big corporates.
He said they had already supported companies who were contracted to companies like Debswana.
Among exhibitors on the day were leading players in the fast-moving consumer goods industry such as Choppies, Tropicana, CA Sales, Fours cash and carry, Sefalana Holdings, PST, Bokomo and Safari Holdings.
The day included fun activities, entertainment, prizes and hampers for guests and the public as well as best stalls awards for the exhibitors.
Barclays Business banking and retail banking segments were also on location to provide and showcase their product suites. ENDS
