UCCSA Mompati Arts choirs tackle women children abuse

25 Nov 2019

It was a night filled with music on Friday when two choirs converged at Westwood International School Hall for the One soul, one nation and one continent concert hosted by the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) Broadhurst Choir.

The UCCSA Broadhurst Choir and Mompati Arts Choir from Vryburg, South Africa, clad in their radiant apparels dazzled the audience with their melodic voices.

The concert was held under the theme: One Soul, One Nation and One Continent to help fight against the abuse of women and children as well as xenophibia.

Speaking at the event, UCCSA Broadhurst Choir chairperson, Catherine Kwenayabeng said as the church, they found a need to meet with the choir from South Africa to help fight against the abuse and killings of women and children as well as xenophobia.

“We may be divided by borders, but we are one soul, one nation and one continent which is Africa.

The abuse and killings of women and children as well as xenophobic attacks affects all.

A lot has been said, so through our concert, we hope to spread the message,” she said.

Former cabinet minister and choir patron, Dorcas Makgato congratulated the choir for the initiative of trying to address national issues in a relaxed environment.

The concert was the first of its kind and the plan is to have it annually.

Meanwhile, Sesigo Traditional Dance group also delivered a thrilling performance.

UCCSA Broadhurst Choir is one of the leading religious choirs in the country having performed in a number of international concerts.

What perhaps sets them apart from their peers is their ability to blend choral music with other genres to come up with great pieces. ENDS
