Air Botswana has established a code share partnership with Ethiopian Airlines.
This was announced by the airline’s General Manager, Ms Agnes Khunwana at a press conference on Tuesday. She said the code-share partnership would allow travelers to and from Botswana to access several popular and exciting destinations and help boost the trade and tourism industries in Botswana.
Ms Khunwana said it also allowed Air Botswana to extend its service reach to destinations such as Accra, Addis Ababa, Lagos, Entebbe and Dar es Salaam, as well as to destinations such as London, Frankfurt, Paris and Geneva.
She said the partnership would similarly stretch Air Botswana’s reach in Middle East and Asia, to destinations such as Dubai, Tel Aviv, Mumbai, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
“The partnership will offer Ethiopian Airlines customers access to Air Botswana’s regional route network to destinations such as Francistown, Kasane, Maun and Johannesburg,” she said.
Ms Khunwana, said they were delighted to join forces with a reputable African airline, to avail a selection of routes to their business and leisure customers.
The General Manager said the codeshare partnership would help Air Botswana to continue to grow its service offerings and avail easy access to and from several destinations with competitive fares, enabling further growth in tourism and trade. Ms Khunwana said the agreement would enable passengers to leverage Ethiopian Airlines’ 125 international routes, in addition to Air Botswana’s network.
Even more gratifying, she said, was to achieve the milestone with a fellow African Airline Association (AFRAA) member airline and solidify inter-African partnerships in the spirit of the single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
She also spoke about the arrival of Qatar Airways, following the liberalisation of the Botswana skies, adding that as with other operators, it had been approved to operate into Botswana and it was expected to start operating on December 15.
She said the benefits included more options and convenience to the flying public and improve traffic coming to Botswana. Ends
