18 Nov 2019

Assemblies of God Women Ministries across the country donated a house worth P97 000 to Ms Mathala Gabriel’s family of Bobonong on November 17.

Speaking after the handing over of the house, Bishop Moratiwa Tshukudu said it was their commitment not to turn a blind eye to the needs of members of the community.

The church donates four houses annually through various ministries of women, men, youth and sisters, according to Bishop Tshukudu.

The Bishop emphasised the role of the church in moulding a spiritually sound human beings hence called on government to consider allocating churches more operational space than they do bars.

He anchored his argument on that some churches were considered business enterprises at the banks yet such business enterprises were limited to only one plot per location while other businesses acquired as many plots as they could.

Bishop Tshukudu said with enough church buildings people would be able to access church services and subsequently feed from the word of God.

On his part, Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) chief executive officer Mr Mooketsi Tlhagwane called on women ministries to partake actively in road safety campaigns.

The MVA chief said that churches had a bigger population of women and that it was at church where people were moulded therefore women should help in changing behavior on the roads.

The MVA CEO anchored his submissions on that women suffered the consequences of male reckless drivers.

This could be through losing a breadwinner, a son, father who are mostly perpetrators of road traffic accidents.

He noted that women were the majority caregivers of the injured road users

The MVA chief called on women not to turn a blind eye to road accidents as the same church members used the same roads.

Mr Tlhagwane pointed out that 72 per cent of road accident fatalities were men.

Statistics from Botswana Police Service road traffic division show that from November to December this year 388 lives have been lost through road accidents.

Receiving the donation, Ms Gabriel revealed how she was so plagued by troubles that at some point considered suicide. However, considering that she needed to care for her four children, she took to farming.

Ms Gabriel appealed for more support in the form of water and  a donkey cart to help her ferry water to her homestead. Ends
