Ministers Fraternal promotes road safety

In a bid to promote free road accident society, Maun Ministers Fraternal in collaboration with Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) and Botswana Christian AIDS Intervention Programme (BOCAIP) will embark on a prayer session against the increased road accidents.

The prayers led by ministers fraternal will  be held on November 19 at  Maun Police Station  where vehicles involved in road accidents are parked and Officer Commanding for District No. 5 will be the guest speaker.

In an interview, the chairperson of ministers’ fraternal, Pastor Terrence Sechele explained that during the prayer session, they would also disseminate information about road safety to all road users since the festive season was approaching.

He appealed to the community  to join forces with the government and pray against road accidents which continued to claim  lives while some victims were left with disability.

He said road accidents affect all  saying that they had devastating impact on the victims and their families.

Pastor Sechele revealed that the intention was to hold prayers in areas prone to road accidents especially towards public holidays such as Easter holidays, Independence and festive season as more people would be travelling to difference places.

He also appreciated that during public holidays, ministers fraternal across the country embark on prayers against road accidents.. 

This year’s paryer session would be the fourth in Maun. The first session was held at Sedie ward next to Botswana Defence Force premises , the second one was  at Tsau village along Sehithwa/Shakawe road while the third was held behind Caltex Filling station in Maun.

The initiative to hold prayers for road accidents was MVA concept,which approached BOCAIP as faith based organization to join forces with them in combating road accidents. 

He said BOCAIP, had engaged them as churches through ministers fraternal and they welcomed the idea as they believed it could make a huge difference.

Meanwhile, Maun is one of the villages leading in road accidents. It was reported that District NO.5 which covers Maun and surrounding areas registered 365 road fatality of which the district accounted for 21 deaths.

The majority of the accidents are attributed to bad road user attitude including speeding, driving under influence of alcohol and drugs; dangerous overtaking; pedestrian misconduct and distracted driving especially through the use of cellphones.

One of the village leaders, Kgosi Babinang Majatsie hailed ministers fraternal for taking the lead in praying for road accidents saying the church remained their hope for cleaning the village’s image.

 Kgosi Majatsie underscored the need to continue praying against road accidents as they affect the country’s economy.

The church, he said  existed to play a role in the society as well as ensuring that there was order and a pleasing environment towards God adding that issues such as crime, road accidents and violence could be eliminated through prayer.

Kgosi Majatsie assured Ministers Fraternal support in every activity they undertook in the village. Ends
