Centralised traffic signalling project kicks off

Ministry of Transport and Communication has commenced works for Gaborone Centralised Traffic Signalling, a project that will help in managing and improving traffic congestion including road safety.
A press release from the ministry states that the project which is expected to be complete by December 2019 entails replacing the existing traffic robots and installing the new centralized traffic signalling (smart system).
“The system offers flexibility and interactivity by responding to traffic scenarios through data generated by vehicle counting and classification sensors,” it states.
The release explains that the initial works will start in the areas of Tsholofelo Community - Pedestrian Crossing by Tsholofelo Community hall (where there is a tall cantilever pole) as well as the Segoditshane Way/Mica - Gaborone Private Hospital traffic lights.
Works also cover Segoditshane Way/Lemmenyane Drive - BBS/Shell traffic lights, Segoditshane Way/Makgwaphe - skip the next traffic lights after BBS/Shell one (T-junction) then by the T-junction that runs right to Marang Junior Secondary School).
Segoditshane Way/Kasane road) - the next intersection and the T-junction that turns left going to Choppies /Broadhurst Court have also been included.
The ministry apologises for any disruptions that will occur and further advises members of the public to be vigilant at all times around the site areas. Ends
