Qatar Airways postpones arrival
07 Nov 2019
Qatar Airways has postponed its new service to Gaborone to December 15.
The carrier, which will fly to Gaborone via Johannesburg from Doha, was set to commence on October 27. Communications and public relations officer at Civil Aviation Botswana (CAB), Mr Modipe Nkwe said the airline had communicated through a letter their challenges which hindered them to honour the set date.
He said they had requested the airline to elaborate further on the challenges for CAB to assist where possible.
The arrival of Qatar Airways in the country will increase the number of carriers operating in Botswana to six, being Air Botswana, Air Namibia, South African Airlink, Ethiopian Airlines and South African Express and lastly Qatar.
The carrier will operate a three times a week service, and would not be allowed to transport passengers between Gaborone and Johannesburg. Only passengers on the Doha itinerary would be allowed.
Qatar Airways will be the first Middle Eastern airline to fly to Botswana and the second non-African carrier after British Airways. ENDS
