Lucara Botswana intends to expand footprint in Boteti beyond
05 Nov 2019
Lucara Botswana aims at expanding the magnitude of its investment in the Boteti area by engaging in development projects, says Karowe Mine general manager Mr Johane Mchive.
He was speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony for the P890 000 public toilets project in Letlhakane November 4.
He said Lucara Botswana funded the project with its business partners; Trollope Botswana, Dreamchoice and Medupe Plant Hire.
Mr Mchive said the objective was to align profits made through diamonds with developments.
He described Lucara Botswana as a responsible company saying the intention was to ensure that the mine’s footprint in terms of investment, was visible even outside Boteti.
Mr Mchive stated that the recently discovered Sewelo diamond had not yet been sold due to the need for further analysis of the stone.
He said the aim was to use proceeds from the sale of the stone for the establishment of an institution comprising a pre-school as well as primary and secondary schools.
The planned stadium and multipurpose hall project, also to be funded by the company, would commence early 2020, he said.
The general manager promised that proceeds from the jewellery made by the winner of the ongoing competition would be invested in Boteti.
According to safety health education and community relations manager Mr Ewetse Mathaba, the aim of the public toilets project was to assist the community with restrooms and three kiosks to be put up behind the Spar Mall.
Mr Mathaba said the project would be undertaken within a period of two months.
Senior assistant council secretary for the Boteti Sub-district Mr Milton Keitshokile said the facility was strategically located at a place with a high movement of people.
He said the project was in line with the sub-district council’s mandate to promote public health adding that it would therefore be responsible for maintenance of the facility. ENDS
