IEC confirms mixture of ballot boxes

24 Oct 2019

Counting of ballot papers for Letlhakane Central ward in the Boteti East constituency has started after the process was stopped in the morning.

Giving a media update, IEC principal public relations officer said the counting process for the ward had to be stopped as the process did not go as it was supposed to.

He said ballot papers for local government elections and the national assembly were used vice versa.

Mr Osupile Maroba, however, said the ballot papers had the same party representation printed on them with the only difference being that they were used vice versa.

“Through consultation which was sought from the commission an agreement that will benefit everyone was reached,” he said.

Counting for Letlhakane Central was stopped in the morning and resumed around 5pm. Counting of ballot papers for the other wards in the constituency had been done as they were not affected by the incident.

Mr Maroba, however, explained that should one feel aggrieved, the law provided that petitions could only be submitted 30 days within the release of results. ENDS
