Commercialise small stock - Markus

20 Oct 2019

Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security has challenged small stock farmers to commercialise farming.

Mr Konstantinos Markus was speaking at a poverty eradication mass packaging event in Maun on Friday.

He said small stock businesses dominated among business projects undertaken by poverty eradication.

However, Mr Markus said most beneficiaries only turned small stock into subsistence farming instead of commercial farming as intended.

He urged beneficiaries to take advantage of small stock opportunities available in the region and the Middle East.

He noted that the poverty eradication programme was aimed at helping people living in extreme poverty to overcome and succeed in business.

Mr Markus said the North West District had managed to produce about 1 029 businesses since the programme was introduced.

He said 42 beneficiaries were graduating in various business projects on that day.

For his part, poverty eradication coordinator, Mr Montshiwa Montshiwa advised beneficiaries to be passionate about their projects of choice to realise growth.

Mr Montshiwa said the poverty eradication programme had seen many successful beneficiaries. He said the mass packaging was a national exercise aimed to clear the poverty eradication waiting list. ENDS
