BotswanaPost hosts conference

27 Aug 2013

BotswanaPost will host the Southern African Development Community (SADC) postal strategy consultative conference at the in Gaborone) on Wednesday.

A press release from BotswanaPost states that the conference will enable stakeholders to engage on resolutions from the ICT ministers’ conference which was in May in Lesotho.

Resolutions from the ministers' conference directed the SADC secretariat to work with the Communications Regulators of Southern Africa (CRASA) and the Southern Africa Postal Operators Association (SAPOA) to develop the 2013-2014 SADC Postal Strategy in line with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Doha Postal Strategy.

Maseru ministers’ resolution further called upon CRASA and SAPOA to lead the process by supporting the SADC secretariat in developing the framework, content and all the technical aspects necessary for the production of the Postal Strategy document.

The strategy recognises that the postal sector touches human life in various ways and if properly planned, funded and supported, the post should be able to contribute immensely and positively to the development of the regional economy.

At the end, a draft paper will be developed further by the consultant, Mr Derek Osborne in consultation with CRASA and SAPOA to give a clear focus on what ICT ministers will be expected to debate during their Postal Strategy conference to be held in South Africa in November. ENDS
