Zet Em Zet Internet cafe flourishes

The Zet Em Zet internet café is one of the successful small scale businesses operated by a youth grant beneficiary in Tutume.
The Selolwane born and bred woman, in her late 30s, Ms Zibanane Zwibata, said in an interview that she started her business five years ago, after securing P20 000 from the Department of Youth.
She started operating with only two computers, one large photo copying machine and by then the business was slow until after two years in 2009.
The young entrepreneur said she got another P50 000 to grow her business, which she used to buy four more computers, binding and lamenting machines and then connected Internet.
She explained that the main reason why she ventured into this kind of business was because by then, there was no Internet service in Tutume and local students had no access to the outside world like other students in towns, particularly for researching.
Consequently, her business started growing because people got used to her services and won some tenders to provide services from some government departments.
For Ms Zwibata, it was not a flat race running such a business. It was hectic, but she did not give up because she had the passion to do business and wanted to be her own boss.
Like any other business, there were a few challenges. She reckons how the 2011 national public service strike almost collapsed her business. That, she said, was because people were not coming for her services, especially the public servants who formed part of her clientele.
“I had no choice but to wake up each day with determination to deliver as I am the bread winner in my family,” she said. Nevertheless, her business started doing well after the strike and since then she managed to build a bigger house for her family and bought herself a car.
She employed two other youth and she has started donating certificates to best achievers during prize giving ceremonies to local schools. Given her experience as a self-employed young person, she encouraged other youth to take advantage of government schemes.
“Though it may not be easy to get funds and start businesses, they should never be discouraged but have patience because it will be worthwhile at the end,” she said.
Key to any successful plan, she said, was good management hence one should learn to save the little money they get from whatever source of income. ENDS
