External voting scheduled for Saturday

A total of 1 044 Batswana have registered to vote in the October 12 external voting for Batswana residing outside the country.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) principal public relations officer, Mr Osupile Maroba has said in an interview that election staff had already left the country to prepare for the Saturday elections at the 36 external voting polling stations.
On other issues, he advised the public that advance poll was established in the Electoral Act for officers who would be conducting elections on the national elections day.
This, he said, owed to the fact that IEC offices countrywide had started receiving requests from citizens regarding special dispensation to be allowed in advance polls, stating their different commitments during the date set for elections.
He said advance poll staff included police officers and election officers as provided for in the Electoral Act.
Mr Maroba encouraged Batswana to farmiliarise themselves with the Electoral Act because.
On other issues, he said in preparation for the October 23 elections, IEC was buzy with printing of ballot papers and training of poll staff.
He advised Batswana to ensure that their Omang cads were safe and that should they lose their registration cards, they should ask for replacements at IEC offices nearest to them countrywide. ENDS
