Botswana Land Boards Local Authorities and Health Workers Union (BLLAHWU) has donated clothing, trees and dustbin to 150 destitutes people from various villages in the Nata/Gweta area. The union handed the donation during a community service day held for Sepako, Maposa, Manxotae and Nata villages.
The vice president of BLLAWU, Mr Disang Kokotetso said their aim was to achieve prosperity of all, adding that every stakeholder had a role to play in every community they served to assist the government. Mr Kokotetso noted that they also donated P30 000 to Nata Senior Secondary School to buy books for their library. He highlighted that the union was established in 1974 to address employees’ issues as they faced many challenges at work.
“Our footsteps had been recognized as we did such kind of community service day in Lobatse, Mahalapye, Kasane and Bobong ,”Mr Kokotetso said. In his welcoming remarks, Kgosi Rebagamang Rancholo said they were concerned that young people do not attend kgotla meetings.
This, he said, happened after an announcement that women should not come to kgotla wearing trousers. He urged parents to encourage young people to participate in kgotla meetings and explained to them that such action was taken to preserve culture.
He thanked the BLLAWU union for the love and support they shared with the community and reminded them that Nata has a high number of destitute. Responding to Kgosi Rancholo`s concerns, Mr Kokotetso said young people should understand that a country without culture is a lost nation. ENDS
