Winds of change sweep through Botswana - Saleshando

24 Sep 2019

Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) vice president Mr Dumelang Saleshando says change of government is imminent.

Launching UDC Mmadinare constituency prospective parliamentary candidate Mr Mokwaledi Bagwasi and council hopefuls on Saturday, Mr Saleshando urged electorate to vote for UDC and  warned people against fear of change.

Mr Saleshando appealed to the movement activists and supporters to spread the message of a better tomorrow to their families and relatives.

He said the UDC would change the current Ipelegeng programme to labour intensive public works programme, where workers would earn a minimum wage of P3 000.

He dismissed as clueless claims that paying workers a minimum wage of P3 000 would collapse the economy.

He argued that the most knowledgeable professors of economy would back his claims that when workers are paid well they tend to spend more, thereby fuelling economic growth.

Mr Saleshando described Mr Bagwasi as a brave warrior.

“You can’t accuse this man of cowardice,” said Mr Saleshando, who praised Mr Bagwasi for challenging the former MPs of Mmadinare.

He said that Mr Bagwasi, upon quitting public service, tried his luck in Sefhophe four times albeit in vain.

He said that was a character of a loyal man with convictions.

He said had it been some, they could have long jumped ship, but Mr Bagwasi stayed put.

Speaking at the same event, Mr Vain Mamela called on the Mmadinare constituents to vote for change that would see them drinking from the two dams in their locality. At the moment, Mr Mamela argued that Mmadinare constituents were a thirsty community.

For his part, Mr Bagwasi acknowledged that a vast constituency as Mmadinare had a difficult terrain to manage. Ends
