Okavango to host fish market day expo

The inaugural national fish market day and expo will be held in Shakawe on September 26-27.
The objective of the expo is to give beneficiaries of the poverty eradication programme product exposure and market access as well as to encourage the development of competitive and sustainable business and bring small scale entrepreneurs together to share ideas and skills.
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Machana Shamukuni is expected to officiate at the event.
Speaking in an interview, district poverty eradication coordinator, Mr Victor Mokobi said such events were also aimed at building strong relationships with various stakeholders to increase market access.
He said they had invited potential buyers such as Ocean Basket, Senn Foods and other big chain stores across the country to participate in the expo.
For skills sharing and facilitation during training at the two-day expo, Mr Mokobi said they invited organisations such as CEDA, LEA and well established fish farmers in the country.
Various dishes such as fried, boiled, baked and smoked fish, Tswii fish and fish porridge among others would be on display, he said.
“Local fishermen will also be trained on selling and preparation of various fish dishes, including traditional cuisine.
We are looking forward to graduate beneficiaries from the expo,” said Mr Mokobi.
He further noted that there would also be a mass packaging of beneficiaries who had applied for the poverty eradication programme to start their business enterprises.
He however, noted that other projects such as basketry, small stock, bakery, sewing, carpentry and backyard gardening would showcase. ENDS
