Oageng Kelathegile of Otse was on September 7 crowned Miss RADP 2019 for Mahalapye Sub-district at an RADP beauty contest and fashion show in Mahalapye.

Her first princess was Gloria Gaboimelwe, also from Otse, while second princess was Boitshoko Rabosaakane from Mokgenene.

In the fashion show category, Onkgolotse Radipeba from Otse was crowned Mr RADP 2019 while Obakeng Jubeng of Mokgenene was first princes and Godfrey Kebantshetse of Moralane came third.

The finalists will represent the sub-district at the district level contest.

Speaking at the event, Broadway Motors human resource manager, Joseph Tamari commended government for providing youth in less developed areas with a platform to cultivate their talent.

Tamari said the programme provided young men and women with a platform to unearth their talent as well as being one of the efforts by government to combat discrimination, promote equal distribution of resources to combat unemployment and poverty.

He said the competition continues to grow and become even more competitive, and that it also encouraged positive behaviour as being crowned the queen or prince compelled one to be an ambassador of positive behaviour.

Through, the competition, people who were shy and finding it difficult to move out of their comfort zone to explore the world in search of empowerment opportunities have now found their feet and were venturing into some productive and positive activities.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Kobamelo Maunatlala appreciated the initiative for the positive impact it has on the lives of the youth.

Kgosi Maunatlala said Mahalapye Sub-council, through the Department of Social and Community Development, must be commended for working hard and reaching out to people in less developed areas.

“I believe they will use what they have learnt to turn their fortunes around in life and engage in meaningful activities and develop their communities,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the sub council committee responsible for RADP activities, councillor Banthasetse Merementsi of Otse/Kodibeleng/Moralane/Ikongwe said since the nation was striving towards the fourth industrial revolution, it was important to take everyone on board.

Cllr Merementsi said people from less developed localities were lagging behind and must be guided in order to be at par with the technologically advancing world.

“They must be guided and urged to go forward and be made to realise and believe that they can use their talents to survive,” he said.

He said they also must be encouraged to move away from being dependent on government food baskets and other support programmes. ENDS
