Nkange up for grabs
08 Sep 2019
Nkange constituency deserves better.
This was said by some of the prospective parliamentary candidates for Nkange being Mr Edison Woto of Alliance for Progressives (AP) and Dr Never Tshabang of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).
The candidates said during the Radio Botswana debates in Tutume that as such if voted to Parliament they were going to bring various developments to Nkange constituency.
As for the BDP prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi, who is the current chairperson of Tutume Sub-district appealed to the constituents to vote for him as he was already aware of the needs of the area.
He cited on-going projects such as the Tutume infrastructure development project, which entails installation of street lights, construction of internal roads and bridges.
Mr Mokgethi said the projects were going well and had brought so much change to Tutume. He however said Nkange constituents should continue voting for BDP as it had kept its promise of spreading developments equitably across the country.
He said the constituency faced water challenges and the BDP government had made efforts to secure funds from the World Bank to undertake water reticulation project from Ntimbale Dam.
Mr Mokgethi said by far, the tender was out for companies to express interests, adding that upon completion; all the villages in the constituency were going to get potable water from Ntimbale Dam.
He noted that beginning the next financial year, government would build a 72-bed hospital to address congestion at the current primary hospital.
UDC’s Dr Tshabang said under the UDC rule primary healthcare would be prioritised.
He noted that in 2015, they were promised a hospital, only to be told that it had not been allocated funds.
Dr Tshabang said health needed more attention to save Batswana, hence the need to vote for him to bring change.
He also said the UDC government would build boarding facilities for students who walk about 12 kilometres to secondary schools in Nkange and Maitengwe.
For his part, Mr Woto said it was time for people to take charge of their area by bringing in people determined to improve their lives.
Mr Woto said spreading infrastructure developments across the area would greatly improve the lives of people.
He noted that such developments would have a positive impact on local businesses and help them create employment and empower citizens.
Mr Woto suggested that to push the waiting list for land allocation, which stood at about 15 000, there was a need to fill empty spaces available as they were already serviced.
In addition, Mr Woto said under AP government, Tutume Sub-district would be turned into fully a fledged district. ENDS
