UDC BMD saga dead buried - Boko
02 Sep 2019
Leader of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Advocate Duma Boko says the UDC/Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) saga is dead and buried.
This followed a recent Gaborone High Court ruling.
Advocate Boko said the ruling nullified BMD’s claims that its dismissal from the coalition was unlawful and unconstitutional.
Speaking during launch of Gabane/Mmankgodi prospective parliamentary and council candidates in Gabane on Sunday, the UDC leader indicated that since the case was no longer a concern, the party was going into this year’s general election a formidable force.
The coalition is made up of Botswana National Front (BNF), Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and Botswana People’s Party (BPP). He said the three parties’ pillars of land for all by BPP, development of the human capital by the BNF and job security as advocated for by BCP complemented one another.
UDC deputy leader, Mr Dumelang Saleshando, said the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)-led government failed Batswana in many aspects, including failure to diversify the country’s economy.
Mr Saleshando said although Botswana was rich in natural and mineral resources, government still failed to improve the welfare of its citizens, adding that unlike Botswana, Mauritius did not have mineral resources, but it has the most diversified economy.
He, therefore, urged Batswana to vote for the UDC in large numbers in the October 23 polls.
Remarking on the MP hopeful for the constituency, Mr Moreetsi Gomang, Mr Saleshando said he was ready for the job, since he had worked as a secretary to the area Member of Parliament.
For his part, Mr Gomang pledged to win and to represent the constituency well. ENDS
