01 Sep 2019
Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) vice president, Mr Dumelang Saleshando has reiterated the UDC’s commitment towards transforming Botswana if voted into power in the upcoming general election.
Speaking at the launch of Gaborone Central UDC prospective parliamentary candidate, Dr Mpho Pheko, Mr Saleshando said the UDC manifesto promised Batswana an efficient and inclusive economy that supported acceleration of job opportunities and building an economy that worked for all.
He said the UDC government was committed to reforming the business environment to accelerate domestic investment and increase inflows of foreign direct investment.
He added that his party would also invest in building human capital to set Botswana on the path of the fourth industrial revolution.
As one of its job creation strategies, Mr Saleshando said the UDC would adopt an aggressive approach to develop small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) as well as invest in the informal sector to accelerate job creation and empower Batswana.
He further stated that the 100 000 jobs in 12 months objective was attainable as it would be spearheaded by a committed leadership.
Selibe Phikwe West UDC parliamentary hopeful, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse said the UDC was committed to shifting human resource development towards attaining the forth industrial revolution requirements.
He stated that the UDC intended to root out corruption and create an accountable government by supporting accountable and independent public services.
Mr Keorapetse said the UDC government would insure the reopening of the BCL mine once it was voted into government.
For her part, Dr Pheko pleaded with Gaborone Central voters to vote for her and UDC prospective council candidates in the next general elections, saying her commitment to serve her constituents spoke volumes.
She said constituents should be cognizant of the fact that Gaborone Central was predominantly a student and education hub of the city, and that it was important that the UDC was voted into power as the party had, through its manifesto, vowed to increase the tertiary student educational allowance to P2 500 per month and subsidise data usage for students and employed youth.
Dr Pheko will contest for the Gaborone Central parliamentary seat against Alliance for Progressives (AP) prospective candidate, Dr Phenyo Butale and Botswana Democratic Party’s Mr Tumisang Healey. ENDS
