Agricultural shows opportunity for SMEs
12 Aug 2019
With agricultural shows come the opportunity for service providers and manufacturers to sell their products and services to consumers who otherwise would not have easily known about their existence.
Not only are they a great outing, but also good for doing business. These are platforms where business discussions and negotiations take place and even though transactions may not be of a large scale, one thing, guaranteed is exposure.
An exhibitor at the just ended Serowe District Trade and Exhibition Show, Mr Bakang Oeme of Gozone Water Serowe, a company that produces purified, re-mineralised, ozonated water said such platforms were important for him to showcase products.
The company produces bottled water, customized labelled water, refills dispensers for office consumption and ice.
The company is a 100 per cent women citizen owned.
Mr Oeme said the decision to market his products at the show was because it was an enabling environment created for them, to interact with potential clients.
Considering that he is still new in the game, staying away probably was not an option.
He said the restriction on importation of bottled water that was announced by the government last year inspired the start of the business.
Mr Oeme further said water is needed everyday and people nowadays prefer to drink purified water.
Another exhibitor, Rung Investments director, Mr James Ditsela concurred with Mr Oeme that shows were important to their businesses.
Mr Ditsela who runs a pest control business appealed for support from the government and parastatals.
He said there should be fairness in awarding of tenders and that government support should be extended to all businesses.
Awarding of tenders for pest control, he said should be reserved for companies that deal with such.
Mr Ditsela observed that most of the time, building construction companies were awarded government tenders and before they start construction, they engaged them to perform the pre and post termite and ant treatment.
He said construction companies often delay to pay them, which affected their businesses.
The company provides services such as pest control services, treatment of termites, bat and birds control, rodent control, fumigations and supply of agrochemicals. Ends
