Passion drives business youth entrepreneur

Passion and academic qualifications have driven a young Motswana woman, Ms Diketso Phalalo, to open a 100 per cent citizen-owned business.
Having studied Advanced Taxation at Botswana Accountancy College (BCA), Ms Phalalo says she was inspired to assist young entrepreneurs and small businesses like herself on tax issues and accounting through her firm, Tax Preparer Botswana.
In an interview, 29-year-old Ms Phalalo said her tax and accounting business had been in operation for the past four years and currently employed three accountants.
She explained that the service the company provided was more than just completing tax return forms on time or efficiently performing a consulting project noting that it entailed building a solid business relationship with each client in order to know how best to serve them.
“We are also dedicated to serving our clients in whatever capacity we can when they complete their returns,” she noted.
Tax Preparer Botswana also hosts seminars called Tax Talk on Saturdays. It is a programme designed to assist small businesses and bookkeepers or anyone desiring to understand more about taxes and how to keep their businesses on track.
“This is a fun and relaxed event where participants can ask questions, share their tax and accounting struggles and also connect with others who are in the industry.
The event goes for P250 attendance fee at Oasis Motel from 10am to 1230pm,” stated Ms Phalalo.
She encouraged other youth not to sit on their qualifications waiting for somebody to employ them but to venture into entrepreneurship which she said not only benefited an individual but the country as a whole.
“Tax and accounting are essential to business growth. With time, I will extend my services countrywide to assist more businesses and individuals on tax and accounting related matters,” she said. Ends
