Southern district expects more participation at the show

Southern District Agricultural show committee Chairperson, Mr Christopher Gofhamodimo says they are anticipating more participation this year as the event incorporate exhibits from various sectors besides agriculture.
The Southern District Agricultural show themed, The Position of Agriculture going into the Knowledge-Based economy, is scheduled to commence on July 30 at Kanye Showgrounds.
The show aims to support the government’s effort of moving from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy through agriculture.
In an interview, Mr Gofhamodimo said for the past three years, the event had shown tremendous growth and they intended to grow it further to turn it into a trade show.
He noted that they had invited other stakeholders such as financiers and health care providers, to offer their services to participants and attendants.
However, he said the Ghanzi show might pose a challenge as some exhibitors cannot afford to attend both shows, considering the short time frame between the two shows.
Mr Gofhamodimo appealed to exhibitors to register in large numbers so that they could have the opportunity to showcase their products.
He said the stalls were priced according to the different categories of exhibitions.
Additionally, the committee chairperson called on members of the community to support the initiative to make it a success.
He urged them to take part in activities such as bush clearing and cleaning of the showground as the show is a community event.
“Support is generally low and sometimes we end up hiring people for bush clearing even though we are also volunteers.
We are appealing to members of the community to own this project by showing support in various ways,” he said.
He said the showground needed continuous maintenance every year because of vandalism. This, he noted, had adverse financial implications on the already financially constrained committee.
Registration of exhibits will be done on July 30 and 31, followed by judging of stalls on August 1.
The official opening on July 25 will be followed by various entertainment acts on July 26. ENDS
